Time Capsule | July 1994

What adventures were you having in July 1994?

I was spending most of my time listening to Tori Amos and The Cure while staring at a calendar, counting down the days to my impending freedom from the shackles of high school. My sense of teenage angst was at an all time high. But the world kept spinning outside the four walls of my bedroom, and there was some great movies, music & fashion going on, so let's crack on and take a retrotastic look back at July 1994.

We hope you enjoy the Time Capsule we've dug up this month!

WHAT WERE WE WATCHING?

I know I sometimes <cough prettymuchallthetime cough> grumble about the lack of quality movies in most of our Time Capsules, but I'm happy to report that July 1994 had a bumper crop for us to reminisce about here.

I mean... Forrest Gump! Come on! Such an amazing movie. Those with a... ummm... let's just call it it a 'simple' sense of humour were probably keen as mustard for Baby's Day Out, and action fans were no doubt weeing themselves over Arnie Schwarzenegger in True Lies. But it's Jim Carrey in The Mask that is my top pick from this lot. Carrey was at his comedic best, and Cameron Diaz was hotter that an egg frying on the bonnet of your car in summer.

As usual, clickety-click on the movie posters to watch the trailers!

WHAT WERE WE LISTENING TO?

Oh '90s music, you sexy as fajitas beast you. Stand-outs for me here are Stay by Lisa Loeb, Des'ree's You Gotta Be, and I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Around The World by East 17 - love me, don't judge me.

The gals from Absolutely Fabulous teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys, as you do; Ace Of Base saw The Sign - we'll probably never know what that sign is, but whatever Trevor; and the Crash Test Dummies proved you can have a hit single in the mid-90s by doing nothing more than humming over & over. Nice work Dummies!

WHAT WERE WE WEARING?

'90s fashion pages never disappoint. From July 1994 we have a couple of editorials featuring living Barbie-doll, Claudia Schiffer - one of which featured Claudia all dolled up like a Barbie-doll. So very meta!

I always love the spreads from my beloved Dolly magazines, and Rosie Riedl in Captain Cool stepped up for the challenge here. And ermagherd I love love love Shalom Harlow in Hot Blooded Pink! It's simply amazing!

Enjoy!
